High school cancels football season, fires every coach after suspended player suits up with different identity

https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... -identity/

This is an interesting story. The player played in a different jersey, using a different name, and the claim was that he was a freshman. The coach was part of this ruse, but even after he was caught, he's sticking to the lie:

He also said that he did not know Jackson should have been suspended for a game.

"That's kinda my wrongdoing of not knowing the rules and that he shouldn't have not sat out the jamboree, he should have sat out week one so that's what happened" he said.

As for the coach's defense of Jackson wearing a different jersey, Gregory said "that's a thing our kids do on the regular basis, you know, they try to change jersey numbers and sometimes don't let us know."

That still doesn't explain Jackson being listed as a freshman with a fake name.

Shaquille O’Neal Backs Free Speech: ‘Daryl Morey Was Right’

NBA Hall of Famer and TNT commentator Shaquille O’Neal defended free speech during the opening night telecast of The NBA on TNT, and said that Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey was correct to back pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong.

“As American people, we do a lot of business in China,” O’Neal said. “And they know and understand our values and we understand their values. And one of our best values in America is free speech.

“We’re allowed to say what we want to say and we’re allowed to speak up on injustices, and that’s just how it goes.

“Daryl Morey was right,” Shaq explained. “Whenever you see something going on wrong anywhere in the world, you should have the right to say ‘That’s not right,’ and that’s what he did.”

‘Unacceptable’: Fans, Media Erupt After LeBron James’ Outburst During National Anthem

The NBA was understandably excited to start its season and get away from the China controversy that had embroiled the league over the past couple weeks.

However, even more controversy ensued on Tuesday night and on into Wednesday as video surfaced showing LeBron James walking off the court and screaming while the national anthem played.

Biologically Male Runner Named Conference Female Athlete Of The Week

The Big Sky Conference named University of Montana runner June Eastwood, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, the cross-country female athlete of the week.

“June Eastwood finished second in a field of 204 runners at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational,” helping “Montana place seventh as a team,” the conference noted in its announcement Tuesday. Eastwood previously competed on the University of Montana’s men’s team.

The University of Montana’s athletic director previously cited NCAA policy in explaining why Eastwood was competing on the women’s team. The NCAA allows male runners who identify as transgender women to compete in women’s athletics after suppressing testosterone levels for a full calendar year.

NCAA poised to move toward allowing athletes to make money

The Board of Governors will be briefed Tuesday by administrators who have been examining whether it would be feasible to allow athletes to profit from their names, images and likenesses while still preserving NCAA amateurism rules that are the bedrock of its existence.

From the CNBC article:

Student-athletes must still be treated similarly to non-athlete students, the NCAA reiterated in its press release on Tuesday. The NCAA also stipulates that college athletes must not be treated like employees of their respective universities, and that there should be a “clear distinction between college and professional opportunities.”

Unless there is some limit to the income, or the college takes a cut, it looks like the only "clear distinction" between college and pro will be that college athletes pretend to be students.

Nick Saban ‘Honored’ to Have President Trump Attending LSU Game

Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said he is honored to have President Donald Trump attend his team’s upcoming game with the LSU Tigers.

“It’s an honor, I think, that the President of the United States would be interested enough to come to the game,” Saban told the Montgomery Advertiser. “I’m sure we’ll do everything we can to welcome him.”
