How far off from $250 per eye .....

Postby mnymgr1 » Tue May 01, 2018

I keep hearing this radio ad from a well known lasik office for $250 or higher per eye.
I've wanted to get this done for a long time but have only gotten a quote about 10 years ago for radial keratomy (sp?) which is the cutting of a flap, then laser, then closing up the flap. Never really appealed to me, neither did the $2500 per eye cost (the main dr. organization here which has dozens of offices, probably the best eye doctors as well).

LasikPlus, organization I'm seeing today, performs both RK and the somewhat newer laser only procedure. Not surprising if you know me, I will ask so many questions, they'll probably want to upcharge me just for the dozens of answers....haha

So around noon, will let them check my eyes out for free.

So the poll.....how far off will be the cost from the $250/eye on the radio.....
If they actually said $250, I'd probably have a heart attack which would be a much higher bill...lmao

This was one of the best things I ever did and would recommend doing it based on the doctor you choose. One thing to remember is your eyes will age and you may still need glasses for reading as Laskik will not fix aging.

Isn't 20/200 technically legally blind?

My guess about triple the $250

I had lazik eye surgery done by a leading doctor about ten years ago. I paid $5000 total. If someone is doing your eyes for $250, run away. Seriously, don’t play mr cheap with your vision.

I am still 20/20 but age caught up to me and I use cheaters close up reading.

My son just had this done. Took about 5 minutes. LoL. Cost was around $5000. The trouble he has is that his left eye is a lot better than his right. The two combined he is seeing 20/15. They wont do the follow up surgery till it get to be 6 months so they can see if things will balance out. Not saying his vision is messed up just that the left ended up much finer than the right and as long as it is in the correct frame of vision they wont mess with the right.
At least he shoots and is left eye dominate.

If I ever had something done to my eyes like that (I'll stick with glasses for now), I wouldn't care about the cost. I would want the best in the field. The cost would be irrelevant... it's my eyes.

I’d love to have it done but that’s the only way I’d do it.. do one and wait a couple weeks just in case they screw it up!

If you have some kids around that are handy with tools you might want to consider DIY...

...and they give EBux !!

--------------------------------------
I had it done many years ago... back in the Lasik guinea pig days when they would only do one eye at a time (in case you went blind). Worked out great.. 20-20 distance vision after years of glasses... still needed reading specs.

Postby mnymgr1 » Tue May 01, 2018

haha. Just back.
they said I could drive home even though my eyes are 'light sensitive' from the dilation drops.
another haha, that was a kinda scary drive home even with sunglasses on.

this place according to the optometrist has done 73k procedures combined by the 2 surgeons, so I'm pretty sure these guys know what they are doing. I'm in no way concerned about the quality of care or surgeon aptitude. This was the most thorough eye exam that I have ever gone through by far, fairly amazing honestly how many machines/procedures I went through.

Surprise surprise, I do qualify for their procedure but it would be the cutting of a flap first, then lasering, which is what I declined many moons ago.
Not surprising is that I would not qualify for the $250 procedure, that is a laser only procedure, no cutting.

drum roll please.....
instead of $250/eye, I was quoted $2250 per eye
I'm looking at the optometrist in disbelief at that moment, knew I wouldn't get the $250 cost but really, 9x that ??
They had a waiting room full of people waiting to hear this as well, so I guess radio commercials sometimes do pay off.
A bit disappointed obviously, sticking with glasses for the time being :ugeek:

Maybe you can get the 250 one anyway? Tell them to just do that and you will see how it goes?

They told me 8 years ago when i had mine done to qualify for the 250 per eye you wouldn't even need to wear glasses in the first place. I paid 3200 (1595 per eye) for mine and it was one of the best investments I've ever made i say if you want it and can afford it go for it it's like seeing the world in HD. You won't regret it

My Mom had this done years ago. Her doc is the same guy, who did the procedure to Tiger Woods.

She has a hard time seeing at night and sees halos.

I have the worst eyes in my family. I have been known to see/find money and thinks brown paper bags can be big cats (late at night). Lol. I'm too chickenshit to get it done. Plus, I don't qualify as my eyes are bad.
