Is There A "Porn Tax" In Your Future?

The pornography (porn) industry is worth almost $100 billion. Laws that banned porn were struck down more than 50 years ago, so in all 50 states, you can download adult content all you want. Or consume porn the old-fashioned way by reading dirty magazines.

Companies that distribute pornography, of course, already pay taxes on their profits. But legislators in at least 18 states are anxious to ensure they’re getting their “fair share” of the financial bonanza.

Men with beards carry more germs than dogs including deadly bacteria in facial fuzz, study claims

In examining the beards of 18 men and the necks of 30 dogs from a number of breeds, scientists found that even hounds had lower levels of microbes than the beards surveyed.

Professor Andreas Gutzeit, of Switzerland’s Hirslanden Clinic, said: “The researchers found a significantly higher bacterial load in specimens taken from the men’s beards compared with the dogs’ fur.”

Pepsi Plans to Project a Giant Ad in the Night Sky Using Cubesats

A Russian company called StartRocket says it’s going to launch a cluster of cubesats into space that will act as an “orbital billboard,” projecting enormous advertisements into the night sky like artificial constellations. And its first client, it says, will be PepsiCo — which will use the system to promote a “campaign against stereotypes and unjustified prejudices against gamers” on behalf of an energy drink called Adrenaline Rush.

Women 'better at hiding infidelity'

Scientists have revealed that women can judge whether a man is likely to be unfaithful just by looking at his face but men are less able to spot a cheating woman.

Just got back from a fabulous vacation!
I went on a 12 day cruise out of Baltimore, MD and visited St. Croix, St. Lucia, Antiqua, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. 5 Islands I've never visited before. Excellent scenery but I wouldn't drive on any of those islands, they are crazy drivers!!

Dallas County Crooks Rejoice; Democrat DA Won't Prosecute Thefts Under $750

Dallas criminals have just been given a license to steal - up to $750, that is.

Following his November 2018 election win, Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot, a Democrat, announced that he will no longer prosecute certain low-level crimes, including thefts of personal items worth less than $750 as long as it isn't for economic gain, according to CBS DFW.

Cord-Cutting Is Quickly Picking Up Pace

According to Leichtman Research Group, the largest pay-TV providers in the United States, accounting for 95 percent of all subscribers, lost more than 2.85 million subscribers, collectively, in 2018, with satellite services seeing the biggest drop in customers (-2.4 million) and cable companies also losing 0.9 million subs. Part of the decline was offset by a rise in internet-delivered services such as Sling TV, but overall things are looking increasingly bleak for the pay-TV industry.

^ I recall in the late 90's the internet was dial-up and the windows 98 op sys crashed daily.
The big satellite dishes in yards were regularly being replaced by cable TV.
My town got cable tv service in 1983.
I live in the rural country and cable tv was not available, the big dishes not affordable.
I had a total of 6 tv antennae stations (4 VHF and 2 UHF)
RCA introduced the 'mini disc' satellite receiver.
I paid $600 for the dish & receiver and maybe $40 for the 'entertainment package'. I installed it myself.
It worked and i had maybe 20 channels...I quickly added the playboy channel.
About 5 years after that the the RCA discs were free, they were on roofs and in yards everywhere.
I think only Direct tv was available at that time.
I didn't get a streaming channel till 2015. I didn't even know it existed. Now look at its popularity.
Who would've guessed how far its come in 20 years!
What will be next???

Racist, Sexist "Diversity Disaster" Looming In AI Thanks To White Male Programmers

According to new research by New York University's AI Now Institute, we may be in for a future of racist, mansplaining, sexist AIs which are "at risk of replicating or perpetuating historical biases and power imbalances," reports The Guardian.

"The industry has to acknowledge the gravity of the situation and admit that its existing methods have failed to address these problems," said report author Kate Crawford. "The use of AI systems for the classification, detection, and prediction of race and gender is in urgent need of re-evaluation."

As the report notes, over 80% of AI professors are men, while 'progressive' Silicon Valley's super-sexism isn't helping either. Facebook's AI research team, for example, is only 15% women. Microsoft's stands at 10%. Nevermind that women comprise just 18% of computer science majors - which is the exact percentage of authors presenting their work at leading AI conferences.
