I am doing a art project for someone and asked SA if it would be ok to post up the progression as I go along....just wanted to share. I figure this one will have about 30-40 hours in it before completion.

I am a shift worker in a petrochemical plant here in Texas. I come home at 5 am most mornings and work for an hour or so in my little studio. I put on some Pink Floyd, John Mayer, or Audioslave and use up some pencils. I usually just draw pencils but sometimes use Prismacolor colored pencils, like on this project.

This project is on archival quality heavy paper and is 18"x24" in size. About the largest I usually try to do. Keep the size in mind as you look at this stuff and imagine how much pencil I am having to lay down on the paper.

I work slowly so this will take a couple weeks maybe....just bear with me and let's see how it goes......

Still playing with getting some color down. With these particular pencils, they blend extremely well and I am probably layering 4 - 5 different shades of browns and yellows as well as some black.
Also some work on the eyes.....

Starting to layer the colors more and more.....I think the eyes are looking pretty good....just a shade of green in them.

Just keep on laying the colors down. One pencil I use is a blending, colorless pencil. It takes all the colors and kinda smears them together. It is usuall the last thing to layer on the work. I also use a sharp edged eraser to add highlights by removing colors to make the nose shime and high points on the wrinkles, for example.

More in the next day or so.....

damn, this makes me sad.
I can't draw a circle nicely on a piece of paper.
Very nice work, good luck with your project.

Very cool looking BA, love the detail. I have a friend who just opened an art gallery. His main things are fishes and sea life.
