We have visited there and walked on the old lava flows and inside the huge lava tubes. It is really something to see when the lava makes it to the waters edge. I have a couple of lava rocks that i brought home ( supposed to be bad luck :o )
Stay safe!

Stay safe as they are reporting the eruption may continue for awhile.

2 Houses so far have been burned, 3 fissures now active. I am in Lava Zone 3 as are all my property development projects, the lava is In Lava Zone 1, that is exactly where its been predicted to go.
(there are 6 lava zones, safest is 6, the land at the North end of the island) Once the crater collapsed on Monday and the lava was tracked under the highway by thermal imaging, these people were on notice. I really feel for them, but in the final analysis, they all knew when they built/moved there that it was the most likely place for it to go. Everyone just thought it would not happen. Its definitely going to go on for a while. The whole crater of lava is coming out, plus who knows how much more.
They stopped the drones from operating, there were some amazing drone pics yesterday, but its too dangerous for anyone to be that close, the gasses are lethal.
One of the weirdest things is that even though I am relatively close, there is no sign from my house of this event. I did feel the earthquake at 10:30 yesterday morning, the house shook briefly, but that was it. Right now its beautiful outside, after months of rain, the sun is shining and I am preparing to go mow part of my acre of grass!

Yeah, that will teach me to keep my trap shut about no effects! lol, it was a 5.3 felt much stronger than the 4.6 from yesterday. Stuff fell off shelves, dog freaked... I was in the carport, resting from mowing, I moved out of the carport!

I was in the neighborhood just last week. I was going to go to the bid island but then the GF changed my mind to do more than it offers. I would have liked to play in the LAVA... and then leave

Think I'd shut the water off at the supply, lock the house and take a spontaneous trip ANYWHERE ELSE.
