I think you did it backward. The banners catch my eye and make me want to look at the wrong ads.

I say delete the buttons emphasizing negative behavior and make one that says For Sale With Price.

That way I can easily scroll past the time-wasting ads, and stop on the highlighted ones.

I agree with Engineer on this one...FWIW... :D
Also, reversing the tagging would provide a positive incentive to put the "with price" banners on listings.

I think that would keep things consistent. One look down the page and you could instantly see what's what.

Do any of these three new buttons actually increase the functionality of the site? I don't think they do. For posts requesting an offer to be submitted, just move them to a different section. Case closed, problem-solved. We don't need Christmas decorations in every post in the BST. They are an eyesore.

Yes. We've received a lot of positive feedback. It's much easier now to scan what you're looking for, and avoid what you're not. Without the buttons it takes longer to read through the posts.

Creating and moderating a new forum would be more complicated and take more time. Not to mention those offers would get fewer views.

You don't like Christmas? Having color in the listings adds practical functionality. It's a buy/sell forum not an art gallery. If you like, I can show you how to turn your browser black & white.

Is not EVERY item in the BST threads "for sale"?? I'm smart enough to figure out that an item listed in the BST section is for sale.

That's how I feel. I am okay with others feeling differently. It happens.

This is my thought as well. I don't mind the icons, but keeping offers in a separate thread still makes it easier to get to what you're looking for instead of trying to parse through multiple pages for the icons you are looking for, assuming the poster labelled it correctly.

my issue was if there were the :offer: and :wanted: icons that were used at the discretion of the poster (a good thing btw) then i still ended up scanning listings that had no icon, only to find it was a wanted or make offer anyway. the :forsale: makes it easier/faster

and no, if i remember my college b-law correctly, :offer: is not the same as :forsale: :geek:

Which is why it makes sense (to me) to separate them ;)

Anyway, I've certainly made my thoughts known, so for now, I am done. Thanks for listening.

Not judging the deal at all.. just using it as an example for this discussion.......

If the seller will pay 360 I'm not going to 'make an offer' at 350.
If 360 is the max he'll pay I won't bother 'making an offer' at 370.

So what's the point of the :offer: ?

I think it's time for an executive decision. There won't be any noses out of joint either way

I look at the :offer: button in at least a couple different ways..

1.) It's perhaps an "EOI" (Expression of Interest), as a :forsale: listing. Maybe the owner is thinking of selling / trading it, but trying to gauge interest & pricing for something not commonly seen / changed hands. They're willing to keep it, but also possibly willing to let it go for the right price (whatever that might be) to a collector trying to complete their set, as they would appreciate it that much more.

2.) In a :wanted: context? If a potential buyer is looking for something, say a (semi-numi) vintage Ag bar that's maybe not traded often enough to get a firm grasp of price. In addition, something of this nature could variy wildly, in terms of condition, toning, serial #, production patterns, and other unique characteristics. Not all bars alike, and certainly command a range of premiums depending on various factors.

Anyway, my 2 copper Abes.

in this instance, I edited his post to include :wanted: :offer: before he had a price included.
he then edited to add a price but did not remove the :offer:
I would still offer him silver eagles above his price as I believe he knows the curretn market conditions.
So, if I was able to find ase and buy them for say $362 I would offer to him for $367.
he may say no but he might say yes?
