Ft. Hood Purple Santa update

Postby MaxGravy » Sat Dec 12, 2015

Today was the big day. We distributed toys to over 280 children of wounded soldiers. The soldiers submit their wish lists and the Purple Santa makes those wishes come true. It's a huge task to not only put on this event but also purchase and sort all the toys. They're sorted into large black trashbags so the kids can't see what's in them. This way the parents can wrap them later for Christmas. You should have seen all the bags stacked up in the back along with large boxed toys and bicycles and more! (I forgot to take a pic)

This was our second year helping out at the event which was held at the Community Center & Bingo Hall at Ft. Hood. The doors are open all day. Some soldiers just stop by to pick up the presents, but many bring their families and spend some time. Santa always makes an appearance and there are games and prizes for the kids. Lunch and goodies are provided as well. We do our best to make everyone feel special and important.

The Purple Santa is just one part of the WFTW but it's a very special part. This is a truly awesome organization. Splunky and I feel very honored to be able to help out and meet so many kind and caring people. It was a very special but difficult day. We heard stories today that made my blood boil. We live in a messed up world. How did things get so bad? I'm so very blessed to have Splunky as my wife and Texas as my home. Merry Christmas to all and please be very thankful for what you have.

Also, I want to mention that Bullionstacker was responsible for raising more than $1000 for this year's Purple Santa. WOW! THANK YOU!!! And thank you to the folks who bought survival bracelets from the fundraiser. I gave them away to the kids today.

Way to go Randy and Brenda! I am so proud of you guys and the way you have embraced this important cause. It would never go so smoothly and achieve so much good without you doing so much.

I wasn't able to make it to this one Hal. The Duck and Splunky are really pretty involved with the Central Texas wheeling clubs to make this happen.

Randy, when you get time, could you explain a bit about what it was that "made your blood boil."

Thanks in advance.
